Landscape Design Specialist
Position Overview
We are seeking a talented and technically skilled Landscape Design & Development Specialist to join our landscape construction and design team. This role is responsible for developing high-quality landscape and outdoor living designs from concept through detailed plans, specifications, permitting, and client presentation.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with Rhino, CAD, SketchUp, and Lumion, along with a solid background in hardscape design, pool design development, pavers, concrete, and landscape construction. This person must be comfortable collaborating with internal team members, outside designers and consultants, researching city requirements, and presenting design concepts directly to management and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Design Development
* Develop landscape construction designs from initial concepts through detailed construction-ready plans.
* Create 2D and 3D design drawings using Rhino, CAD, SketchUp, and Lumion.
* Produce realistic renderings, visual presentations, and design packages for internal and client review.
* Develop detailed designs for outdoor living spaces, including:
* Pools and pool environments
* Patios and entertainment areas
* Paver layouts and patterns
* Concrete flatwork and design details
* Walkways and driveways
* Retaining walls
* Outdoor kitchens and structures
* Landscape and planting areas
Pool & Permit Plan Development
* Assist with the development of pool design concepts and coordinate design requirements for construction and permitting.
* Prepare and organize plans and supporting documents for city review, approvals, and permitting.
* Research applicable city codes, zoning requirements, setback requirements, and other relevant development standards as assigned.
* Incorporate applicable code requirements and specifications into design plans.
* Coordinate with engineers, architects, pool consultants, and other outside professionals when required.
* Help identify potential permitting or design issues early in the development process.
Hardscape & Construction Knowledge
* Apply practical knowledge of landscape construction to ensure designs are functional and buildable.
* Develop detailed paver designs, including layouts, patterns, transitions, borders, and material concepts.
* Develop concrete design concepts, including flatwork, walkways, patios, driveways, joints, finishes, and other construction details.
* Consider elevations, drainage, grading, material transitions, and constructability during the design process.
* Work closely with project managers, estimators, field teams, and other designers to improve design accuracy and execution.
Team Collaboration
* Partner with the Design Manager and other team members throughout the design development process.
* Participate in internal design reviews and pitch design concepts to the Design Manager for feedback and approval.
* Collaborate with sales, construction, estimating, and operations teams to ensure designs align with project scope, budget, and construction capabilities.
* Receive feedback and make revisions efficiently while maintaining design quality and project timelines.
* Help develop and improve company design standards, details, templates, and specifications.
Client Presentation & Communication
* Present design concepts and revisions to clients through Zoom meetings, video calls, phone calls, and in-person meetings when needed.
* Be confident and professional speaking on camera and explaining design concepts clearly.
* Communicate design intent, material selections, functionality, and proposed improvements to clients.
* Participate in client feedback meetings and incorporate approved changes into design revisions.
* Support the Design Manager during important client presentations and sales meetings.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in landscape design, landscape architecture, outdoor living design, or landscape construction design.
* Strong proficiency in:
* Rhino
* CAD
* SketchUp
* Lumion
* Experience developing pool designs and coordinating plans for city approval and permitting.
* Strong knowledge of hardscape construction, including pavers, concrete, patios, walkways, driveways, and retaining walls.
* Ability to understand and research city codes, development requirements, and permitting requirements.
* Strong understanding of construction plans, elevations, dimensions, materials, and design specifications.
* Ability to create both technical drawings and visually compelling client presentations.
* Comfortable working collaboratively with multiple team members and outside consultants.
* Comfortable presenting on Zoom and video calls and speaking directly with clients.
* Strong research, problem-solving, organization, and attention-to-detail skills.
* Ability to manage multiple design assignments and meet deadlines.

They understand that a great design must not only look impressive but also be functional, buildable, code-conscious, and aligned with the client's budget and vision. They are comfortable taking ownership of assignments, researching requirements, collaborating with the team, and confidently presenting their work to management and clients.
