Looking for someone with solid through-hole desoldering and soldering skills to recap a vintage 1980s Commodore VIC-20 motherboard.
The Job:
Desolder and remove the factory electrolytic capacitors from the logic board.
Solder in a fresh replacement capacitor kit (through-hole only, no surface-mount).
Clean any leftover flux from the work areas.
What I Provide:
The disassembled, clean motherboard ready on the bench.
The exact, brand-new replacement capacitor kit.
A modern, tested power supply and display cable if we want to test boot on-site.
Requirements:
Experience working on vintage single- or dual-sided PCBs (must know how to desolder cleanly without pulling up delicate traces or board pads).
Proper tools: temperature-controlled iron, decent desoldering tool/pump, and 60/40 or 63/37 leaded rosin-core solder.
Compensation & Logistics:
Paying $60 cash upon completion.
Happy to drop the board off at your workspace/bench in the South Bay or meet locally.
If interested, please reply with a brief note about your soldering experience or any previous console/retro computing work you've done.
