We are seeking an experienced Lead Machinist to independently run and manage our machine shop department. This is a hands-on, stand-alone role for a highly skilled machinist capable of programming, setup, and operation across CNC and manual equipment. The ideal candidate is self-directed, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of the entire machining process from print to finished part.
Key Responsibilities
Program, set up, and operate CNC machines using Mastercam and Geopath
Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and job specifications
Select tooling, fixtures, and machining strategies for efficiency and quality
Perform first-article inspections and in-process quality checks
Maintain machines, tooling, and shop organization
Manage workflow, prioritize jobs, and meet production deadlines
Work independently with minimal supervision
Required Qualifications
• 10+ years of hands-on machining experience
• Strong proficiency in Mastercam and Geopath programming
• Experience with live tooling and Y-axis lathe operations
• Strong manual machining skills (lathe and mill)
• Ability to work independently and manage a one-person shop environment
• Solid understanding of feeds, speeds, materials, and tooling
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience running a machine shop or department independently
• Fixture design and process optimization experience
• Background machining tight-tolerance or complex parts
• Familiarity with shop management or scheduling responsibilities
