Structural Inspector
GGE Consulting Engineers, Inc. is seeking a qualified and experienced Structural Inspector to perform field inspection and quality-control duties related to structural construction. The successful candidate will work closely with licensed professional engineers and construction personnel to verify that structural components are constructed in general conformance with approved plans, specifications, and engineering requirements.
Position Responsibilities
• Perform field inspections of concrete foundation systems, including slab-on-grade and post-tensioned concrete slabs, for conformance with approved plans and specifications.
• Inspect reinforcing steel, foundation dimensions, placement, and other structural components prior to concrete placement.
• Review post-tensioned slab layouts and verify field installation requirements, including tendon placement, stressing requirements, and related quality-control measurements.
• Perform and document field measurements associated with post-tensioned slab tensioning and stressing operations.
• Collect soil samples in accordance with project requirements, document pertinent field information, and properly package and deliver samples to the designated laboratory.
• Maintain accurate field notes, inspection records, photographs, measurements, and other project documentation.
• Conduct framing inspections for larger residential and light commercial structures.
• Prepare written correspondence, inspection reports, and field observation summaries related to structural inspections under the direction and supervision of a licensed professional engineer.
Minimum Qualifications
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience performing structural inspection or construction inspection duties.
• Demonstrated experience inspecting concrete foundations, slab-on-grade systems, and/or post-tensioned slabs.
• Working knowledge of residential and light commercial structural construction.
• Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, and construction plans.
• Ability to accurately perform field measurements and document observations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prepare clear, concise inspection reports and deficiency lists.
• Ability to work independently in the field while following direction from a licensed professional engineer.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record.
• Ability to travel to project sites within the San Antonio and surrounding areas.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds of equipment and materials and perform routine physical activities associated with construction-site inspections.
• Ability to work outdoors and navigate active construction sites, including uneven terrain and changing weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with post-tensioned concrete construction and slab stressing operations.
• Experience with residential and light commercial framing inspections.
• Experience with soil sampling and construction materials testing.
• ICC, ACI, PTI, or other relevant inspection certifications are a plus.
• Construction inspection, engineering technology, or related education is preferred.
Position Expectations
The Structural Inspector must demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, professional judgment, reliability, and integrity. Because inspection findings may be relied upon by the project engineer and property owner, accurate documentation and timely communication of field conditions are essential.
The position requires the ability to interact professionally with contractors, subcontractors, property owners, engineers, and other construction professionals while maintaining the independence and objectivity necessary to perform quality-control inspections.
