Rare Forms is a design-build company based in Easthampton, Massachusetts, focused on building high-performance homes with healthy, low-impact materials. We specialize in bio-based construction, including our own straw-insulated panel system, and we care deeply about how buildings affect the people who live in them and the world around us. We’re known for thoughtful craftsmanship, collaborative work, and pushing for better ways to build. Most of our projects are in the Pioneer Valley and surrounding Hilltowns (within about 30 minutes of Easthampton), with the occasional project in Southern Vermont or the Berkshires.
We’re looking to add a skilled and motivated Carpenter to our team. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys problem-solving on site, and wants to be part of a small, supportive crew doing meaningful work. The right person is self-directed, curious, and eager to learn, comfortable working with clients, teammates, and trade partners, and excited to help bring well-designed, thoughtfully built homes to life.

This position is expected to average a minimum of 35 hours per week, with some opportunities for overtime depending on the project.
Compensation: We offer a fair hourly wage based on experience.
Starting pay begins at $27 per hour, with higher rates for more experienced candidates.

WHO YOU ARE
You’re a skilled, reliable carpenter who takes pride in your work and understands how your role fits into the larger project. You’re comfortable working through all phases of rough and finish carpentry and can follow direction while also thinking independently. You communicate well, show up consistently, and help keep the jobsite running smoothly.
You’ll work closely with the Project Lead, Project Manager, and the rest of the jobsite team, including trade partners. When needed, especially if the Lead Carpenter is off-site, you’re able to step up, support the crew, and help keep the work moving. You’re also willing to share your knowledge and support Apprentice Carpenters as they build their skills.
Responsibilities:
-Sets a positive example for the Jobsite team by actively supporting everyone on the crew, regardless of skill level.
-Submits accurate timesheets on a weekly basis.
-Takes initiative to solve project problems and maintain high standards, involving the Project Lead when needed.
-Supports the Project Lead in maintaining a clean and well-organized Jobsite and ensuring personal, Jobsite, and crew safety always.
-Ensures good communication and prompt response to calls/texts/emails from others on the project team.
-Submit coded receipts to the office in a reliable and timely fashion.
-Consistently demonstrates comprehension of the carpentry skills listed below and an ability to accomplish related tasks proficiently and with minimal supervision, backtracking, or re-work.
Licenses/Certifications:
Preferred: Experience driving with a 12’+ trailer preferred
Required: Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation
