Roland VS- 2480 DVD digital recording workstation (needs a re-cap) - $900 (Newton Upper Falls)

1) As far as effects, it has 3 of the "-2" cards and one "-3" card installed. No 3rd party plugins installed. (I originally DID have a bunch of the 3rd party plugins installed to the -3 card that came with the machine, but that card failed and I had to buy a replacement card. Unforunately, the plugins are "married" to a specific card and you can't re-install the old plugins to a new -3 card).
2) It was originally a "CD" machine, but not long after I bought it, I upgraded to a DVD burner (a Panasonic) which I installed myself. The DVD burner has worked flawlessly and is a big upgrade over the CD burner in terms of backups. In order to do the DVD burner upgrade, I had to update the O/S to version 2.50 (I believe the final O/S version that Roland released is/was ver 2.51).
3) I upgraded and installed the largest HD (hard drive) that the Roland O/S would support. The maximum size partition that the O/S supports is 11.5gb. On my machine, there are ten 11.5gb partitions, plus one 5.5gb partition. So that's about 120gb of storage. (I upgraded the HD myself at some point after I bought the 2480).
4) I have all the manuals - and I even have the original box for it!
5) I'm the 2nd owner - the first owner barely used it so it was like new when I bought it.
6) All the motorized faders are still in good working order (these are a common failure point on these machines).
7) I can provide a monitor, keyboard and mouse that work with the old-school ports (serial and PS/2) provided on this machine.
Attached are some pictures, including a snapshot of the hard drive partitions as well as the O/S version (visible during startup).
I hadn't fired it up in a while - my memory was that a -3 card is installed in slot 1, and three -2 cards installed in slots 2-4. However, when I recently started it up and loaded the effects module within the O/S, that is no card recognized in slot 1. Maybe that -3 card has gone bad, or maybe it just needs to be re-seated. When I get some more time, I'll investigate more thoroughly. But the three -2 cards are installed and definitely working.
Like most of these machines, the capacitors start to leak and fail, resulting in a lot of "snap, crackle, pop" on both the input and the output signal chain. Until the caps are replaced, it's not really useable. If you're handy with electronics, you can probably do the capacitors replacement yourself and for not much money. If not, a shop is probably gonna cost at least $500 (that's just a guestimate, however).
As far as a price.....it seems like 2480's with the max HD size (120gb), 3-4 effects cards, a DVD-R drive, original packaging and all the original manuals, as well as the necessary (and hard to find) accessories (a PS/2 wired mouse, PS/2 keyboard and VGA monitor) go for anywhere between 1500 and 2500. But given the noise problem due to leaking capacitors, I think I'd be comfortable at a price of $900.
If you also want the Roland ADA-7000 (that I'm selling separately for $350), I can give you a package price of $1100 for both pieces. The ADA-7000 is a great way to seemlessly expand the I/O and routing options on the 2480. And it's a much "cleaner" way to do so as opposed to buy a DIF-AT converter box and an ADAT preamp (which I previously used, and the ADA-7000 method is much better).
And if you buy both machines, I will include a very hard-to-find R-BUS cable (a proprietary cable/interface that Roland uses to allow their machines to transfer audio and other data to one another). Check my other listings for details about the Roland ADA-7000.
