This position is based in Mountain View, California and requires travel to project sites, mostly in the San Francisco Bay Area. Some overnight travel may be required.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Air, soil, groundwater, storm water, surface water, and treatment system sampling;
• Collecting field data with portable instrumentation including photoionization detectors (PIDs), groundwater level and quality meters, field test kits, etc.;
• Mobilization and demobilization of field equipment;
• Packaging of samples for delivery to analytical laboratories;
• Maintenance of field equipment;
• Operation and maintenance activities of remediation systems;
• Research and purchase of equipment and supplies, including coordinating deliveries;
• Coordination of field vehicle maintenance and repair;
• Housekeeping of shop and equipment storage areas.
Accountability:
• Maintain regular and clear communication with Remediation Specialist, Field Operations Manager, and/or Project and Task managers;
• Communicate effectively with co-workers, contractors and clients;
• Demonstrate flexibility to meet deadlines and arrive at appointments on time;
• Show creativity in solving problems;
• Successful attendance and completion of company sponsored health and safety courses to maintain eligibility for field work;
• Respectful use of Weiss owned vehicles and equipment;
• Pay attention to details; and
• Follow written and verbal directions.
Requirements:
• Up to five years of experience performing field work in environmental remediation industry. Proven experience working independently.
• Minimum high school diploma.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and in remote locations. Ability to bend, stoop repetitively, carry up to 25 pounds for a distance of 100 yards, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to traverse uneven or steep surfaces. Adequate visual and auditory acuity is required; corrected vision and/or hearing is acceptable.
• Must be willing to remove facial hair if required to be fitted with a respirator. Must have respiratory capacity to work wearing a respirator.
• Basic computer skills in Window Microsoft Office applications;
• Ability to work weekend shifts as project needs require;
• Ability to work overtime as project needs require;
• Ability to work out of town and overnight as project needs require; and
• California driver’s license and driving record must be acceptable to Weiss’s insurance carrier.
Compensation - $25/hour - $40/hour. This position is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
