It is new, I am 88 years old with bad shoulders, knee and hip. I thought because this is a more laid-back trike, I would be able to ride it: however, it didn't work out. I just bought it and rode around the block and then to Safeway and back and found it is too much for me to handle. Beside the cost it took me half a day to assemble it, so you don't have to do the labor, just ride off. It can be peddled with power assist or ridden by power only
