I am primarily a Soul singer with some higher range but strongest in low register vocals (Dr John, Billy Gibbons, Tom Waits...) I built a full band with horns that does Retro Soul, Funk etc but am looking to pull together a side gig with one or two partners playing songs spreading into other genres in a unique presentation that appeals to a wide range of audiences but also to the real Music Afficianados and Musicians...
Maybe some sweet slide guitar/mando/retro electric piano (Rhodes, etc)/electric fiddle? Many combinations come to mind. A Rhodes and a slide guitar--?! The idea is raw, authentic, creative revisions of some great deep cuts and unexpected curveball songs everyone knows but are surprised and pleased to hear with a new, primal or ethereal take. Plenty of improvisation and solos, turning well known songs into on the spot jams nobody saw coming.
Music that uplifts and takes people places they didn't expect in their favorite local Irish Pub or neighborhood bar or whatever. Gets couples slow dancing and tankards swinging...
Maybe promote for private parties, events, corporate gigs... Someone who has a foot in that market would be perfect, as I am much more on the creative side of the spectrum than the nuts and bolts business side. But I'm happy just playing cool local pubs.
I just moved to the Millis/Medfield/Medway area and have a nice rehearsal space.
This is a new concept I am developing and some artists/songs that come to mind for what I envision are Tom Waits (Old '55 etc), Jay Farrar (Son Volt and Uncle Tupelo's No Depression album especially)
some Unforgettable Fire/Joshua Tree era U2 (Running To Stand Still etc), Dr John (Such A Night etc), early Ray Charles, maybe some Little Feat (Long Distance Love), Prince (17 Days, Dorothy Parker etc), various 80s songs that lend themselves well to the concept including some otherwise sappy crowd pleasers like Bryan Adams' Heaven done Alt Country style (just thought of a great concept for that song earlier today...) and so many other classic 80s bands' songs could be done like this... Men At Work, New Order/Joy Division, The Cure, Squeeze, The Fixx, Journey etc... Plus endless other directions to take this concept with great tunes from any genre in the last 60+ years.
Looking to have fun primarily and give crowds a good time while doing something satisfyingly creative that gets people engaged and responsive.
All positive vibing heart and soul performances, not the generally expected cover band material but not too obscure going over the crowd's heads...
If you got this far and this gets your wheels turning, let's talk. With collaboration and totally free creative input from the right people, I think this loose concept could be pared down into a really cool presentation that would win over audiences and bar owners alike. Send a video or audio recording if interested.
I am looking for uniquely skilled, creative, enthusiastic improvisation-geared musicians who don't need a ton of bookings off the bat but would love a new fun collaboration project with appropriate gigs here and there to start.
I also write and can usually come up with a decent vocal for someone else's instrumental original groove/riff if I feel it, so I would love a good co-writer situation to throw some solid original material out there into sets and see what flies...
