Experienced and collaborative bassist looking (Denver)

I’m a bass player with two decades’ experience, looking for a band where I can help steer the grooves, bring some melody to the low end, and mix things up from one performance to the next. I’ve played with some great musicians, recently stepped away from my last group, and am eager to get back onstage.
My bass heroes include Paul McCartney, Aston “Family Man” Barrett, James Jamerson and John Paul Jones. I have a particular soft spot for Tina Weymouth, Mike Mills, Phil Lesh and John Entwistle. I love a good groove, but I also love tying chord changes together with a melodic line and finding ways to make a song move.
I’m interested in a great rock or R&B band, especially one with original material and a strong live-show ambition. I love playing inventive covers, too, and I’ve had fun with bands that mix Dead tunes with their own songs (for instance). I’ve also experimented with a hard-driving R&B sound where bass and guitar really play off each other in a Jack Bruce/Cream kind of way. And I love ‘70s jazz, from Chick Corea to Miles Davis. I’m open to different ideas if the musical chemistry is there.
A few other details: I’ve got pro gear and plenty of live experience. I play fretless, can add rhythm guitar when a song calls for it, have songwriting experience, and can contribute some baritone vocals if useful.
I’m in south Denver but willing to travel for the right band. If you’re putting something together, have great tunes that need a bassist, or want to build a potent live band, say hi and send me some audio. I’d love to hear what you’re doing, get together and see if we click.
