These awesome USA made Philips receivers are very rare. There wasn't a lot of any audio gear being made in the USA in this era.. sure,,.. Mcintosh made their stuff here,.... but not in this price class.
Vintge receivers often have some imperfections,.. so let's get that out of the way first. The AM/FM tuning function on this is a little funky. When listening to radio,.. you can hear the stations come in,.. and it's in stereo.. but the stereo light does not always light up. Also, one of the channels for the radio is louder than the other ( radio only.. this does not happen with other inputs) . Other than that, all other inputs have strong, even output. I was going to get my repair guy to fix the radio tuner.. but I figured that most people nowadays use these receivers for vinyl and streaming music,.. and not radio... Also, , those who stream often use a radio streaming app like Iheart Radio. ,.. so, I decided not to spend the $100 on getting the tuner fixed. This way, I can offer you this receiver for less because I didn't have to fix the tuner.
The quality build on this is amazing. This is in gorgeous cosmetic shape. A beauty on the outside, without any scratches or marks.... and on the inside, this is a sight to behold, with an almost mil-spec grade circuit layout, and quality USA made components. This is clean, and has been well preserved. It is rated at 30 watts, but by today's standards, it most definitely pushes more power than that. The orange display is elegantly sublime. This is small, but it sounds bigger than it's size. I did the usual refurbishments on this, including spraying out dials with the good stuff,.. Deoxit spray. This has that soft incandescent light charm and vintage appeal. Your eyes will drink in the sultry radiance , and your ears will be engulfed with sweet , smooth fidelity. This is indeed and American masterpiece that will have your friends asking,.. " Where did you get that, and how can I get myself one ? "
