We're looking for responsible backup drivers that have a reliable vehicle and the ability to communicate with customers in a courteous manner. Previous experience is appreciated. It will be essential to have a valid driver’s license, access to a printer for manifests, pens, a clipboard or binder for manifests, a phone that can access a route signature app, familiarity with a GPS app, PDFs, Excel, Word, and emails.
Location:
We’d prefer that our drivers live within a reasonable distance from Columbia, SC, since this is where most of our routes converge. The other alternative would be to live somewhere between Columbia and Georgia or North Carolina since we have routes there as well. For now, if you lived too far south or east, it would cost you extra hours and gas money on top of the 10-30 hours round trip each of our routes require.
Contracting Process:
After we look over your resume, we’ll get in contact with you and discuss things. If we determine you’re a good fit, we’ll need you to review, fill out, and sign our paperwork and provide us with a copy of your valid driver’s license.
Details:
We have several routes that vary from working Sunday morning to Sunday evening to a route that goes from Saturday evening to Monday afternoon.
The pay for the current route we need covered the most is $226. Other routes pay more based on the time on the road, the vehicle needed, and the company maintaining itself. All drivers receive at least 80% of what the route makes. The numbers you see above are after we’ve set aside what the company needs.
Route Variables:
2 to 27 stops
304 to 1,553 miles round trip
10 to 30 hours round trip (with hotel stays for longer routes)
Most pickups from stops are single packages that range from 1 to 10 pounds and in total, fill up no more than a trunk and/or backseat of a car.
Cars are used for most routes, while minivans and cargo vans are used for the rest.
We'll always let you know in advance with emails that include printouts of what the exact pay will be for the route and any other information you may need in order to get the route done correctly.
Hotel stays with compensation are included when routes are too long.
Backup drivers are put on a list to be contacted in case one of our drivers is indisposed.
If we ever get a new route or a driver stops doing a route, we look for our backup drivers to become the primary drivers for routes.
