Experienced Pocket Drummer Seeking Original Jazz/Funk Fusion Band – Chicago Area
What’s going on, fellow musicians!
I’m an experienced drummer looking to connect with an established band or like-minded musicians interested in creating original music. My main interests are jazz fusion, funk, neo-soul, R&B, gospel fusion, and instrumental music that blends different styles.
A little about my background:
I’ve been playing drums since I was 4 years old. I grew up playing in church, which gave me a strong foundation in gospel, but throughout the years I’ve been exposed to and played many different genres of music.
I’m primarily a pocket drummer. My approach is centered around groove, feel, dynamics, musicality, and serving the music. I love locking in with a great bass player, creating a deep pocket, and allowing the music to breathe. I can get creative and open things up when the music calls for it, but I’m not someone who believes every measure needs a fill or a display of chops.
I appreciate musicians who understand that sometimes the simplest groove, played with the right feel, can be more powerful than anything complicated.

What I’m looking for:
I’d love to find musicians who are serious about developing an original sound rather than simply recreating someone else’s music. I’m especially interested in a group that enjoys experimenting with different time signatures, soulful chord progressions, syncopated grooves, improvisation, and blending jazz, funk, gospel, hip-hop, and neo-soul influences.
Whether you’re an established band looking for a drummer or musicians wanting to build something from the ground up, I’m open to connecting.
I’m not opposed to playing covers, but my primary interest is writing, arranging, recording, and eventually performing original material.

* Available Friday evenings and Saturdays for rehearsals.
