It has slats under the mattress which are a little bouncy. Because I sleep on a rather thin, foam-y futon, I threw 1/8-inch plywood on top of the slats - just for solidity, but it makes the bed considerably stiffer (which is no problem for me). You may use it with or without.
The head-board is large, the sides are platform. I wanted space underneath, and that's what it gives. The bet assumes a thicker mattress, as the head board is a little high (10 inches? guessing..) - about right for a mattress, but not a futon. (I use a futon anyway.) I've slept on it for years - it's great, but I'm planning to move abroad.
Pictures are iffy, let me know what you're looking for. Bedding is not part of the deal, only the wooden portion of the platform bed itself. (I mean, you can have the mattress if you *really* want it.. but the thick blanket stays with me.)
