This rare antique Japanese 6-Panel floor dividing folding screen is likely from the Meiji to Taisho period. Made of paper with a multi-color design. This original piece originates from Japan and dates back to circa 1900’.
The inner panels feature ink and light color paintings on paper, depicting traditional themes-including a figure with classical calligraphic poetry, a bird of prey (falcon/hawk) on a rock with bamboo, and a cormorant with chrysanthemums.
The paper shows overall ambering with the blue/white floral brocade mounting with gold specs.
The reverse side is covered in a a traditional repeating geometric stamped paper (karakami pattern), bordered by standard Japanese decorative silks brocade trim and a dark wood frame.
The rear side (only) condition factors: There is noticeable war with paper lifting, surface foxing/staining, and splitting along the panel hinges (visible along the edges and backing paper).
Each panel measures 23.5” wide, 53” tall. Total width of this floor unfolded is 141”.
