Complete, working low-power NAS / home server built around the sought-after U-NAS NSC-400 -- a discontinued 4-bay hot-swap Mini-ITX chassis that's genuinely hard to find now. Ran TrueNAS reliably for years; retiring it only because I consolidated my storage. Great starter NAS, Plex server, backup target, or homelab node.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
- U-NAS NSC-400 4-bay hot-swap chassis (aluminum/steel, Mini-ITX) with Delta 250W Flex-ATX power supply
- Gigabyte H77N-WIFI Mini-ITX motherboard (LGA1155, dual Gigabit LAN + onboard Wi-Fi)
- Intel Core i3-3240 @ 3.4 GHz (2 cores / 4 threads)
- 8 GB DDR3-1333 (G.Skill, 2x 4GB)
- Noctua NH-L9i low-profile CPU cooler (whisper quiet, highly effective)
- 4x Western Digital WD Green 2 TB (WD20EZRX) in hot-swap trays = 8 TB raw
- BONUS: a matching 5th 2 TB drive included free, untested / as-is
- Original boxes for the case, motherboard, CPU, cooler, and RAM
DRIVE HEALTH (I'd rather you know up front)
All 4 installed drives pass SMART with zero reallocated sectors, zero pending, and zero uncorrectable. They are old, though: three have ~8 years of power-on time, one ~5 years. Load-cycle counts are high (the well-known WD Green IntelliPark idle-parking quirk -- it caused no reallocations on any drive, and it's disable-able with idle3ctl). One drive logs 2 UDMA CRC errors (a past SATA-cable event, not a platter fault). Treat the drives as bonus storage that still tests clean, and budget for eventual replacement like any used drive.
NOTES
- No boot media / OS included -- TrueNAS is a free download and installs to any USB stick. Happy to install it and show it booting/running before you buy.
- All drives have been securely wiped.
- Cash, local pickup in the Denver metro.
$300. The NSC-400 case alone is worth a good chunk of that. Reasonable offers considered. Honestly it's a steal for everything.
