Antique Henry Troemner Precision Equal Arm Balance
Offered is an original Henry Troemner precision balance manufactured in Philadelphia during the late 19th century (approximately 1875–1900).
This is a substantial floor-standing laboratory or assay balance measuring approximately 52 inches tall on its original cabinet base, with a 34-inch beam and 12-inch diameter brass weighing pans. The balance retains its original beam, center column, pan hangers, arrest mechanism (front crank), original cabinet with two drawers, and both weighing pans.
The wooden maker’s label reads:
HENRY TROEMNER
PHILADELPHIA
Henry Troemner was one of America’s premier manufacturers of scientific and precision weighing equipment, supplying laboratories, universities, industrial firms, and government institutions during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
This example features:
* Original cast iron beam and center column
* Original brass pan hangers
* Two 12-inch brass weighing pans
* Working arrest lever to protect the knife-edge bearings
* Original wooden cabinet with storage drawers
* Attractive untouched patina
Condition
The scale is being offered in as-found condition.
It shows significant surface rust, oxidation, worn paint, and age-related wear consistent with long-term storage. I have not attempted restoration or cleaning beyond light dusting. The balance appears substantially complete, but I have not tested or calibrated it and cannot guarantee weighing accuracy. Original weight sets are not included.
This would make an excellent candidate for careful conservation, museum display, or addition to a collection of antique scientific instruments.
