Hello and thanks for looking!
I need someone who can look after my two shorthair domestics until my living situation stabilizes, which I expect within one to two months. However, you MUST be able to commit to four months because, let's face it, things haven't gone particularly well up 'til now or you wouldn't be seeing this ad.
To clarify without oversharing: I landed in Spokane recently ISO help from a friend who turned out not to be a friend, and have since had actively hostile roommates who make the situation untenable. Can't currently afford $4k for 1st, last, deposit, pet fees; haven't had any luck with shares because
1) not many listed
2) even fewer that accept cats
3) even fewer that answer contact attempts
4) the ones that answer turn out to be actively hostile and/or scam artists
Plan A to address that is acquiring the $4k by November and moving into an apartment or house by myself.
Plan B is find and thoroughly vet a shared situation before moving in with supportive roommates, which could happen earlier.
With that out of the way, the parameters of this gig:
The cats are a mother and cub, both vax'd, both fixed, both chipped. The mother was a (aproximately) 3.5yo feral before I socialized her and raised her last litter. She enjoys having quiet, dark spaces to lay in and hide. If she gets comfortable, she likes high, sturdy places to perch. She lives in constant fear of death but is a relaxed and loving cat. The boy loves his string and has some degree of brain damage from his early days of getting stuck in a fence and almost starving to death before I found him and nursed him back to health. He also lives in constant fear of death but is a real prick sometimes to his momma, who will growl when he pounces on her and bites too hard. They are inseparable and mostly very chill animals, but the boy will want to sharpen his claws occasionally and needs something that's not going to be an issue if shredded, i.e. not your italian leather sofa. They are both cats and no matter how peaceful and/or scared they usually are, if left to their own devices they will eventually develop the rips (zoomies, screamin' mimis, FRAPs, etc) and crash into things. Ideally they have a dedicated room with unshreddable/unbreakable contents, some perches, fresh air, and some dark space away from your entry point for feeding/litter disposal.
They will run away from you (and your house) if given the chance and cannot be let outside or even anywhere close to outside. I have a kitty carrier they like to lay in as well as a small end table and small wicker bookcase they like to sit on, a litter tray, a food plate, and a water fountain, Those items should go in their room along with a blanket (of mine) so they have some familiar comfort. If you know how to introduce cats in their own time, they can potentially get along with other cats but it will depend heavily on personality. They CANNOT be around dogs, period. To be clear, other animals in your house are ok but need to have fully separate and distinct spaces- no situations of "My German shepard slipped past me into the room, one of the cats clawed its nose, and it bit the cat to death."
You must be willing to interview, chat, and allow me in your house to initially see the living conditions and then periodically for brief visits to drop off food and litter and make sure the cats are doing alright. I am not going to hand my cats off to a drug-addled squatter looking for beer money. You and I don't have to engage on anything other than the cats, but I DO need to know that you are trustworthy and understand how to care for a cat. I will need to have written agreement and photos of: You, your property, and your ID. I believe in human decency, but also have enough experience to put everything in documentation- there will be no scenarios in which the cats vanish and all I get is "Sorry, I don't know what happened."
For compensation, you will receive my everlasting gratitude and a whopping $60 a month to basically do nothing except 2 minutes a day of putting down food, water, and litter. I will also pay for their food and litter. I will NOT pay for anything they scratch, because they shouldn't have anything to scratch of yours that you will want me to pay for. They are well-behaved cats and are not going to pee on your carpet unless their litter tray is a solid block of excrement, which you won't let happen because the litter tray gets scooped every day, which you already know because you know how to take care of cats. Right? Right!
Again, I expect this situation to be resolved by November. You can also potentially expedite that if you know any good, open-minded, social people who want the same in a roommate. It is imperative that I get the cats a safe space in the next few days, but if you are reading this, it is still live. The listing will only come down once the need has passed.
