About the Role
Urban Sky is seeking a rural property owner or farm operator to host and conduct twice-daily high-altitude weather balloon launches (morning and evening). The right candidate has the space, we provide the equipment, training, and support.
Property Requirements (required — please read before applying)
- Access to open land with minimal nearby obstructions (no power lines, utility poles, towers, or tall trees in the launch zone)
- Outbuilding with at least a 10-foot door clearance (barn, garage, or contractor bay) adjacent to or opening onto open outdoor space
- Rural or semi-rural property within reasonable distance of Tucson, AZ.
What We're Looking For
- Good with tools/equipment and detail-oriented
- Dependable with strong attendance — launches must happen on time, every day
- Able to perform basic computer tasks (logging data, sending updates)
- Comfortable working outdoors and lifting up to 50 lbs
Pay & Terms
- Paid per launch with a perfect attendance incentive - total compensation can reach $6,000/month
- Launches occur every day of the year, rain or shine - weather does not cancel operations
- A small team (partner, family member, or trusted helper) is encouraged to ensure daily coverage
- Contract position (independent contractor)
