***WHY KILN DRY?***
Kiln-dried wood improves longevity and durability in several concrete ways:
- Lower moisture content (typically reduced to about 6–8% for indoor furniture) — minimizes future shrinkage and swelling.
- Greater dimensional stability — far less warping, cupping, splitting and checking over time.
- Fewer pests and fungi — the heat cycle kills insects, larvae and mold spores.
- Stronger, more reliable joinery and glue bonds — adhesives and mechanical fasteners hold better in stable wood.
- Better finish results — finishes adhere more evenly and are less likely to fail as the wood moves less.
- Faster, predictable acclimation — kiln dried pieces reach equilibrium with indoor environments more quickly, reducing post-installation surprises.
