ABOUT THE ARTIST: Born in 1939, Landscape specialist Jim Rey was raised in Palo Alto, CA, and spent summers on his grandfather's ranch. He attended Shadduck, a private school in Faribault, MN, and then studied journalism at a JC before starting a career as a commercial artist.
At age 30, he started painting while working as a graphics director for PBS's Bilingual Children's Television, and in this capacity did some of the first computer animation for TV. However, the demand for his work was so great that he quit and moved with his family to Colorado.
He located his studio on his ranch near Durango and usually paints on location.
