Steamer trunks (named after their location of storage in the cabin of a steam ship, or "steamer") which are sometimes referred to as flat-tops, first appeared in the late 1870s, although the greater bulk of them date from the 1880-1920 period. They are distinguished by either their flat or slightly curved tops and were usually covered in canvas, leather, or patterned paper.
It makes for great storage for quilts and blankets. My dad's 100% pure wool Navy blanket has been stored in it since 1942 and it still looks brand new.
This Steamer trunk is in good condition and all original. The two storage trays are also in good condition. One leather handle on the end is broken. There are two original keys and the lock is functioning properly. This trunk has been in my family for three generations.
My two children are not interested in having it so I am reluctantly selling it.
If you search on eBay or Etsy you will find them priced from $200-1800. I feel that $200 is a very fair price for this steamer trunk.
