Think less news anchor and more a funny friend who went down a rabbit hole and now needs to tell you what she found. The research is real, but the delivery is conversational, skeptical, sometimes sarcastic, and occasionally interrupted by a very reasonable “What the hell?”
Sometimes we’re questioning something you deal with every day. Other times we’re following a completely ridiculous piece of history or discovering that a simple question has a much stranger answer than expected.

Why Are We Still Making Fake Pockets?
Barely Explained uses a rotating host format, with each booking built around one episode. We’re looking for personality rather than one particular presenting style. Someone might be a great fit for dry observations about self checkout, while someone else might connect more naturally with the absurdity of radioactive drinking water, Arizona heat, fortune cookies, or someone trying to win a fighter jet with Pepsi points.
Each host has room to bring her own personality, reactions, sarcasm, curiosity, and comic timing to the material and make the episode feel like her own.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Women ages 18 to 35 with a natural, approachable appearance and a slim, fit, athletic, or average build.
You should be comfortable speaking directly to the camera and able to make a scripted line feel like a thought you just had. Expressive reactions, curiosity, comic timing, sarcasm, and a little disbelief are more important than having a polished announcer voice.
Acting, hosting, improv, modeling, or content creation experience can all be helpful, but none are required. All experience levels welcome to apply.

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
Barely Explained is produced for a mature audience and includes occasional profanity, irreverent comedy, and unconventional visual concepts.
Wardrobe and visual comedy are sometimes used as a second layer of the joke, creating a playful contrast with what the host is explaining rather than simply illustrating the story. The mature visual side is part of the scripted comedy and varies from episode to episode.
Some episodes include minimal wardrobe, partial nudity, or other mature visual elements as part of the comedy concept. Other episodes may have more conventional wardrobe throughout.
The complete script, wardrobe requirements, visual concept, and any nudity involved will be discussed clearly in advance so you know exactly what a particular episode requires before deciding whether you would like to participate.
Scripts are provided ahead of time, and a teleprompter is used during filming, so no memorization is required. We film the material in manageable sections rather than expecting one perfect uninterrupted performance.

FILMING
Filming is expected to take approximately 90 minutes, though some sessions may be scheduled for up to two hours depending on the episode.
Scheduling is primarily on weekdays.

COMPENSATION
Pay is $300 to $500 flat per episode.
Compensation is based on relevant experience, on camera ability, and fit for the episode. Higher rates may be considered for an especially strong fit.
Your rate, scheduled session length, script, and specific performance requirements are agreed upon before booking, and payment is made at the conclusion of filming.
Strong fits may be invited back for additional paid episodes and future May Productions projects.

Applicants should include things like your first name, age, height, city, general weekday availability, and a brief introduction, along with a couple of recent photos, including one full length photo.
Also let us know which episodes from the list caught your attention or sound like something you would have fun presenting.
Links to acting, hosting, modeling, social content, or other on camera work are welcome but not required.
Selected applicants may be asked to record a short script excerpt so we can get a feel for their natural delivery and which episode might be the best fit.
