Large Antique Camelback Dome Top Storage Chest - Wood & Tin/Metal Steamer Trunk , 35" Long
This lovely 1800's Victorian antique dome top camelback trunk (also known as a humpback or steamer trunk) is a large size, measuring an impressive 35" long. It's a unique piece of furniture that exudes a sense of history and vintage charm. It's designed with a classic rounded arch top, wooden slats, and metal. This piece showcases a smooth exterior reinforced by vertical oak wood slats and heavy-duty metal banding with ornate metal hardware, including decorative corner guards and floral-embossed latches, giving it a touch of Victorian-era industrial charm. The interior reveals an original paper-lined interior that is light beige and a single metal hinge. It makes a perfect chest for living room or end-of-bed storage, or a dedicated restoration project for history enthusiasts.
Function: Long ago, it was used as luggage for travel, especially on trains (hence the "steamer" name) and the dome top was made so that other trunks wouldn't be stacked on top and potentially crushing or damaging the trunk below. Nowadays, it is used as a standout décor accent piece used as storage for things like blankets, pillows or linens and/or comforters (and placed at the bed-end) or as a memory chest for old family heirlooms, photo albums and keepsake treasures and trinkets, such as doll collections. Would even make a great toy box or board games storage chest.
