Antique Bench Top Grinder, Grinding Wheel, Buffing Wheel
This is an All-Ball Bearing Split Phase Motor. Will last forever
Look up split phase motors.
It will start up Quickly and shift like a transmission in your vehicle, then saving electricity and running cooler and more efficiently.
Built to last Forever. Craftsman Name. Also says Dunlap on it. Made by Dunlap for Sears.
Custom Built Tool Rest on it. Buffing Wheel is on the left side. Can really Polish Metal!
Tell me when you wish to get together. This Quality is hard to find, and it would be 300 dollars plus.
How it Works:
A split-phase motor achieves its self-starting capability through a simple, clever mechanical and electrical design:
Two Windings: The motor contains two sets of coils. The main (run) winding is made of thicker wire and has low resistance but high inductance.
The auxiliary (start) winding is made of thinner wire and has high resistance but low inductance.
The Phase Shift: Because of the different wire thicknesses, current flows through the two windings at slightly different times. This creates a "shifted" phase angle, tricking the motor into acting like it is running on two-phase power, which provides enough torque to get the motor turning.
The Centrifugal Switch: Once the motor reaches about 70–80% of its full speed, a built-in mechanical switch (or an electrical relay) automatically disconnects the start winding. The motor then continues to operate solely on the run winding
I will upgrade the Pictures when I have the time. I couldn't figure out how to shut the flash off.
