About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned, highly skilled Lead CNC Programmer / Operator who excels both at the machine controller and in driving projects across the finish line. This is a hands-on technical role built for an expert who thrives on the shop floor, bridges the gap between engineering and production, and possesses the project leadership needed to keep manufacturing runs on schedule.
Our ideal candidate is a true machinist's machinist—someone comfortable working with both modern setups and proven legacy machinery (specifically Mori Seiki CNC mills and lathes). If you are a master at direct G-code editing, complex workholding setups, and systematic troubleshooting, this unique position offers long-term stability with an established manufacturing team dedicated to precision and quality.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Programming & Machine Setup
• G-Code Proficiency: Write, edit, and fine-tune CNC programs. Must be comfortable performing manual G-code adjustments directly at the controller to resolve errors, lower cycle times, and adapt to machine-specific nuances.
• Legacy Equipment Operation: Setup, program, and operate Mori Seiki CNC mills and turning centers, leveraging deep familiarization with legacy controllers and machine capabilities.
• Complex Setups: Design and execute robust fixture configurations, tool selections, and workholding strategies for new and recurring jobs.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Rapidly diagnose and rectify program errors, radius discrepancies, tooling wear, or limit switch/mechanical issues to keep downtime to a minimum.
Manufacturing Project Leadership
• End-to-End Execution: Drive key manufacturing projects from raw material to finished product—establishing realistic timelines, tracking milestones, and ensuring punctual delivery.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering and design teams to review part manufacturability, refine workflows, and overcome design bottlenecks.
• Resource & Inventory Management: Oversee project-specific materials, tooling stock, and shop equipment needs.
• Mentorship: Share technical expertise with junior operators and machinists.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Experience: 5+ years of dedicated project management or project lead experience within a precision manufacturing or machining environment.
• Equipment Mastery: Demonstrated proficiency operating and setting up Mori Seiki CNC mills and lathes, along with strong navigation skills on legacy Fanuc or Yasnac machine controls. (Yasnac is a huge plus)
• Technical G-Code Skills: Advanced command of manual G-code editing directly at the machine console to resolve radius errors, adjust tool offsets, and optimize programs.
• Setup & Blueprint Expertise: Proven capability to build custom workholding setups directly from engineering blueprints and CAD/CAM models.
• Problem-Solving: Strong mechanical aptitude with a methodical approach to tracking down tolerance drift and machine issues.
• Leadership & Communication: Clear, effective communicator capable of organizing workflows and guiding cross-functional shop efforts.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical degree, machinist certification, or PMP credential is a plus, but relevant real-world field experience is highly valued.
