When you release the latches while the briefcase is vertical, the smart hinge catches and stops the lid from dropping all the way down. It holds the case partially open—functioning like a top-access portfolio or traditional upright attaché.
When the case is laid horizontally on a desk or table, the internal catch releases, allowing the hinges to open a full 90 degrees so it functions like a traditional briefcase.
Also has gravity-based mechanical latches that prevent the case from opening at all if it is held upside down, protecting your files from spilling out.
