The Viper MK VII was the advanced Colonial fighter in service when the Cylons launched their devastating attack on the Twelve Colonies. Although it retained the basic configuration of earlier Viper models, its sophisticated computer systems were vulnerable to Cylon infiltration.
After escaping the initial attack, the crews of the Galactica and Pegasus produced modified versions without the compromised computer systems, allowing the MK VII to return to battle against the Cylons.
