Hello,
I am seeking a room to rent in the flat lands of Oakland, Emeryville or Berkeley.
PREFACE: It's really tough locating folks who don't misrepresent their offerings and are genuine. Renters take risks, too. So, in your response, it would be most helpful if you include a bit of information about your offering so I can discern if it will be of mutual benefit e.g. neighborhood, number of people residing at the location, culture of the household, size of the room, number of bathrooms, cost of utilities, if storage is available, laundry. Thanks.
Seeking housing by 1 November 2026, and preferably in one of the zip codes listed in my post title. I would like to keep my burn rate down on my finances, and seek $900-$950/mo rent, and because utilities require consideration.
I would like a place to call home and not just rent a room. Having spent time working and volunteering on farms and ranches over the years, so I am experienced residing and contributing to collective households of all ages. It would be a bonus if your household embraces fitness for life and clean(er) eating.
I am a middle aged engineer working on an on-going emergency preparedness project research that I have in the works—that’s why I am targeting the aforementioned zip codes. This work is slated for implementation in Oakland/Berkeley.
Additionally, my avocations are Gardening, Farming and Ranch Hand. I have a lot of experience growing food and working with livestock, because food insecurity is real and going to get worse. I have a lot of seeds to share, too. I am also open to sharing my deep experience growing food for a rent reduction if this is a consideration. Also, I would need about 6' x 6' (or 3' x 12' or some permutation thereof) space to continue growing plants in my 'mobile' garden. See photos.
I tend to wake up early and tend go to bed early. Hopefully this will bode well with the culture of your household.
I'd like to think my mom did a good job. I do my best to respect others' spaces, and lifestyles. Yes, I know how to clean-up/pick-up after myself. I am conscientious; tidy; open to thoughtful bi-directional communication; and sensitive to the needs and wants of others, and would trust I would be afforded the same courtesy. I tend to mostly keep to myself because of my research. No drugs. No alcohol. No smoking. Trustworthy, reliable, respectful, and open-minded I think would be operatives that my colleagues, friends and former landlords would use to describe me.
VERY IMPORTANT: Can my trusty steeds, two bicycles be accommodated inside 'out of sight, out of mind' the house or a secured area? Although I own a car, I try to bicycle as much as possible for my main means of transport.
Providing stellar, local rental references is not a problem.
