Santa Monica Travel & Tourism is seeking a part-time Travel Specialist to welcome visitors, share local recommendations, support visitor center operations, and help guests make the most of their time in Santa Monica. Our locations are open seven days a week, year-round. This role pays $24.00 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Greet visitors and provide friendly, accurate information about Santa Monica and the surrounding Los Angeles area.
- Respond to questions in person, by phone, email, and text.
- Recommend local experiences, businesses, and SMTT products and services, including ways visitors can extend their stay.
- Open and close visitor center locations and maintain clean, organized, and welcoming spaces.
- Display and restock merchandise and visitor materials, assess supply needs, and assist with monthly inventory.
- Process sales, handle cash and credit card transactions, and reconcile funds using a point-of-sale system.
- Distribute SMTT notices and publications to local businesses and other locations.
- Assist SMTT staff with administrative projects and represent SMTT at community events as needed.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Two to three years of retail or customer service experience in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong communication, organization, and technology skills.
- Knowledge of Santa Monica and the surrounding Los Angeles area, or the ability to learn quickly.
- Experience with point-of-sale systems, Microsoft Office, and Mac computers; Lightspeed experience is a plus.
- A welcoming, proactive approach and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Fluency in a language other than English is a plus.
- Availability for a part-time schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- A clean driving record if driving is required for assigned duties.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This role may involve working outdoors; standing or walking for extended periods; distributing materials on foot; and bending or reaching to clean and stock merchandise. Some locations may require walking to nearby restroom facilities. The position may require lifting up to 50 pounds and performing repetitive motions.
