This is a substantial old forged iron/steel vise weighing approximately 44 pounds. It has been in my family for generations and was used on the family farm. Based on its construction and style, I believe it dates from approximately the late 1800s, although I cannot verify the exact age or manufacturer.

These old post vises were designed for heavy hammering and forging work, with the long leg transferring impact forces toward the floor rather than through a conventional bench.
Great piece for a blacksmith, bladesmith, metalworker, historic workshop, ranch/farm shop, or collector of antique tools. It would also make an interesting display piece in a rustic shop or barn.
I have intentionally not restored or painted it, so the original character and patina remain.
