POSITION SUMMARY:
The Class A Driver supports Bay Area Tree Specialists’ field operations by safely and efficiently transporting materials, equipment, and loads to and from jobsites, dump locations, and vendors. This role plays a critical part in maintaining jobsite productivity, supporting field crews, and ensuring compliance with DOT, Cal/OSHA, and company safety standards. The Class A Driver is expected to operate with a high level of professionalism, reliability, and teamwork while representing BATS in the field and public spaces.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Productivity & Operational Support
• Provide consistent operational support to field crews by efficiently hauling, dumping, and repositioning vehicles and materials as needed to support daily jobsite workflow.
• Transport materials, equipment, and loads to and from jobsites, dump sites, and vendors, including running gravel trucks and completing daily hauling assignments.
• Minimize idle time and turnaround time by coordinating effectively with dispatch and field supervisors.
• Perform log pickup, masticator support work, and other hauling or transport tasks as assigned.
• Tow and transport heavy equipment in compliance with safety, load securement, and regulatory requirements.
• Operate heavy equipment such as skid steers and excavators when assigned and properly trained.
Professionalism & Communication
• Communicate clearly, promptly, and professionally with dispatch, supervisors, crew members, customers, and members of the public.
• Respond to dispatch instructions and jobsite changes in a timely and professional manner.
• Maintain professional conduct at all times while representing BATS at jobsites, roadways, dump locations, and customer properties.
Attendance & Reliability
• Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance in accordance with company attendance standards.
• Report to scheduled assignments on time and prepared to work.
• Follow established procedures for call-outs, schedule changes, and availability.
• Provide support for emergency, after-hours, or time-sensitive work when required by business needs.
Safety, Compliance & Asset Care
• Ensure loads are transported and dumped in compliance with dump site requirements, with no rejected loads due to improper handling.
• Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe, efficient, and responsible manner, maintaining awareness of fuel efficiency and vehicle performance.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment daily and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
Teamwork & Development
• Support overall crew effectiveness by assisting with ground operations when needed and appropriate.
• Demonstrate teamwork and cooperation with field crews, supervisors, and operations staff.
• Provide guidance, mentorship, or support to newer drivers or ground staff when requested.
Additional Duties
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support operational needs and business priorities.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record
• Current DOT medical certification
• Working knowledge of DOT regulations, vehicle inspections, and log requirements
• Ability to comply with all company safety policies, Cal/OSHA standards, and dump site requirements
