We are seeking a part-time Cook to join our kitchen team at a private school location!
The hours are M-F, primarily 4 hours between (6am-2pm) on days that lunch is served, with time off over major holidays, summers and private school breaks.
This person will be sharing responsibility in a kitchen feeding about 480 people per day for lunch.
Duties include, but are not limited to, working cohesively in a kitchen team of five, maintaining high quality standards in preparation, presentation, portion control, timeliness and cleanliness. Volume cooking experience is a must.
This position begins immediately and ends in mid June, with possibility of re-hire at the end of August for the next school year. Due to the many holiday/vacation periods, including summer, this position is best suited to persons with other sources of interest/ income or those with children in school.
In addition to his or her role, we are looking for someone who can provide excellent customer service and communication skills to interact with the students and staff.
Our lunch program is focused on natural, made from scratch food and served on-site. We are looking for a person who is passionate about local and sustainable foods and expanding the palette of young adults.
A good candidate for this position enjoys working in a fast paced kitchen with fresh ingredients, values being part of a community, working with a school community, and being of service to the school.
This is a team-oriented kitchen and while there are certain duties that apply to each position, it is expected that you are available to help however is needed.
Desired Skills/Experience/Qualifications:
- Willingness to participate in all aspects of the program including prep, cooking, cleaning up, serving, inventory, interacting with students & staff, and other tasks as assigned
- Strong communication skills
- Be able to work with a team
- Familiarity with basic mathematics and weights; measures
- Great knife skills for made from scratch cooking
- Food Handler's Certification upon hire.
- Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to cleanliness and hygiene
- Ability to safely use commercial kitchen equipment.
- Experience with high volume cooking
- Highly self-motivated and organized; capacity to multi-task, set priorities, and respond quickly to changing needs.
- Good time management skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Spanish language skills are a plus, but not required.
