I’m looking for an experienced HVAC/refrigeration technician to replace the failed compressor in my residential central A/C condenser in San Diego.
I am purchasing and supplying the exact replacement Copeland compressor, model ZR42KC-PFV-230. This is an existing R-22 system, and I’m repairing the existing system rather than replacing the entire condenser and evaporator coil.
I’m looking for someone experienced with compressor change-outs who has the proper recovery equipment, vacuum pump, micron gauge, nitrogen, brazing equipment, gauges, etc.
I would like the job to include:
• Properly recover and retain the existing R-22 refrigerant if it is clean and suitable for reuse.
• Remove the failed compressor and install my new Copeland ZR42KC-PFV-230 compressor.
• Install a new properly sized run capacitor matched to the replacement compressor.
• Install a new liquid-line filter-drier since the sealed refrigerant system will be opened.
• Inspect the contactor, wiring, terminals and compressor connections and let me know if anything is burned, loose or deteriorated.
• Use a nitrogen purge while brazing to minimize oxidation and scale inside the refrigerant lines.
• Perform a nitrogen pressure/leak test after installation.
• Pull a deep vacuum, preferably verified with a micron gauge, before charging the system.
• Reinstall the recovered R-22 if it is clean and suitable for reuse, adding additional R-22 only if actually necessary.
• If the old compressor shows evidence of an electrical burnout or contamination, advise me before reusing the recovered refrigerant and let me know if acid testing, additional filter-drier treatment or other cleanup is recommended.
• Start and test the completed system and verify compressor amperage, refrigerant pressures, temperature split and overall system operation.
I am supplying the compressor.
Please quote your labor price for the complete compressor change-out and let me know what additional materials you would supply and charge for.
I’m not looking for someone to simply swap the compressor. I’m looking for an experienced HVAC/refrigeration technician who knows how to properly recover refrigerant, braze, pressure-test, evacuate and commission an R-22 system after a compressor replacement.
