The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reminds drivers in San Antonio and throughout Bexar County to begin preparing for new vehicle emissions testing requirements under House Bill 3297. Beginning November 1, 2026, vehicles registered in Bexar County will be required to pass an emissions test prior to registration.
DPS encourages drivers to start preparing now by keeping their vehicles properly maintained. Routine service can help prevent unexpected registration delays by ensuring your vehicle’s emissions system is functioning correctly. Regular maintenance also helps ensure headlights, taillights, mirrors, windshield wipers, tires, and other critical safety components are operating properly. Driving without required working safety equipment is against the law and puts everyone at risk.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON? ACT NOW! Your Vehicle Is AT RISK of FAILING New Emissions Testing. Waiting could cost you time, money, and failed inspection. Don’t risk last-minute repairs or registration delays. Prepare NOW with Sergeant Clutch and Schedule your Emissions Diagnostic Test!
