For sale is a forged iron spike from the remnants of an old large boulder dam on the New River in Virginia. I describe boulder because the remnants of the dam on the river banks consist of very large boulders. Spike was one of several protruding slightly upward from wood timbers stretched along the base of the dam in the river currents. In this current area there were no remnants of boulders, just these spikes in wood timbers running parallel to the dam across the river. I'm sure boats have been damaged by these spikes in the past. I can't remember where this dam is located on the New River but remember it was just down stream from a campground. This spike is about 18" long and mostly intact considering possibly 150 years in the river. The purpose of the timbers and spikes along the base of this bolder dam is unknown to me. I'm sure some one of you river historians can figure that out. I'll donate this spike to any interested historical foundation. This spike is located about 7 miles south of the Lynchburg, Va. Airport just off of Rt. 29s. Four3four.6six0.six6five6. I can ship.
