ESTATE SALE: Vintage, obviously very old. Its craftsmanship is apparent with the open/close mechanism still operating as originally designed. Being sold from a relative's estate who purchased this from an antique shop on the northeast coast during the 60's. There are no obvious makers mark and is made of a tooth or animal bone material with a silver alloy mechanism which doesn't corrode/rust. Given the patina on the material and where my relative bought it, we speculate it was made in the late nineteenth century by a sailor, possibly a whaler, which explains the lack of a signature.
