L-79 327 engine. Numbers coded for Corvette, with a 4-speed. Word has it that it was a great running engine, but I have not had a chance to check it out yet, so I can't vouch for that. I will be checking it out soon, and will update post as to what I find, and some pics. I will post it on ebay, too, when I find out. Compression, with a visual inspection, and tear down, if called for. Thx for lookin' !
Ok, been a week, and I just added some pics of the #'s on this engine. The deck pad ID #'s are hard to read, but I was able to zoom in on my fone, and they are : V0509HT, and the Vin Derivative is 7118678, block cast date early May of 67, and block casting # checks as an L-79 also. The heads are showing as a matched set of 66 heads, which my friend who used to race back when these were new, and he still builds race engines, says it is normal for a HP engine to have heads that were dated a yer earlier than the block, but I would have liked to see 67 heads, also, I know that. Condition so far : plugs were burning good, and engine real clean inside.Looks like this engine was built for serious RPM, according to the valvetrain...roller lifters, with anti-float springs, and large valve springs want to say big lift cam. Will update more when I tear it down....Thx......
Ok, tore it down today, and learned a few things. first, is that the heads, with their screw in studs n guideplates, are 1.94's...which is said to be quite common....all screw-in studs were done by an owner, so the fact it has them is nice. Research has shown that the 194 heads consistently flo better than the 2.02's, so that might be why, also... but I changed the price to only include the L-79 shoortblock now.....heads will be separate. Thx for lookin'
