Bernardaud Limoges white "bisque porcelain" bell-shaped candle votive and underdish with lithophane scene depicting butterflies flying over fields. Excellent condition, never used, with no chips, cracks, or scratches in original Bernardaud packaging with descriptive pamphlet. Approx. size 4.5" X 3". Made in Limoges, France.

Per Bernardaud, “The Lithophane (VotivelightTM) is a traditional engraving technique on a fine bisque (non-glazed) porcelain that was invented in Limoges in 1828. Bernardaud still uses it to craft beautiful votives that come in a wide variety of decor. The glow of the candle shines through the raised and carved surface of the votive, contrasting light against shadow and thus revealing its richly detailed design.”

This elegant porcelain votive is a beautiful decorative piece for special occasions or year around. Comes in original attractive Bernardaud box, also in excellent condition.
