We are looking for a roommate for our lovely three bed, two bath house in inner SE Portland that is full of charm and great space! The inside has a sunny plant-filled living room and dining room, full kitchen with electric stove, dishwasher, gas fireplace, hardwood and carpeted floors, basement with great storage/workshop space, a mudroom for bikes etc., washer, dryer and central heat. The house also has an awesome fenced backyard garden space that you can help with if you’d like to, and a front patio and yard space. There’s open free parking for all tenants in a parking lot behind the house. We’re walking distance from multiple bus stops, and within one mile of Trader Joes, Safeway, Natural Grocers, and New Seasons Market.
The room posted is on the upstairs second floor. It’s the largest bedroom in the house, with two closets and a private bathroom. The bedroom is in the north east corner of the house and has lots of natural light in the morning and early afternoon. There’s also additional storage shelves and a linen closet outside the room in the hallway. Available November 15th.
What we’re looking for in a roommate:
1. Considerate and personable: We prefer someone who is mindful about not leaving common spaces cluttered, aware of their noise level, and someone who coexists well with others. While we don’t all have to be best friends, ideally we’d like to live with someone who is open to communicate and/or socialize. We keep our common spaces relatively clean and take turns doing various household tasks. We have a whiteboard on our fridge to track whose turn it is to buy various communal supplies for the house like dish soap, paper towels, all purpose cleaner, etc.
2. Friendly and open communicator: Conflicts are naturally bound to arise, and we want someone who can communicate their feelings respectfully and can settle for fair compromises. If something is bothering you, we’d like it brought to our attention sooner rather than later, and in a respectful way – we want all of us to be happy and comfortable in this house, and our end goal with resolving conflict is just that. We’d like our house to feel like a home and less like people just living around one another.
3. Politically conscious: We would prefer to live with someone that is down to earth, cultured, and conscious of global events. This is a rent controlled house.
4. This is not a party house. Occasional get-togethers and individual guests are ok. Cannabis friendly, but no smoking inside. Outside smoking okay with an ashtray.
5. Strong preference for women, late 20s – 30s, full time employment or student, financially stable.
Who we are:
V : 29 F, I work full time as a floral clerk at New Seasons Market. I enjoy volunteer work, and also like to listen to podcasts and go on walks to our nearby park. I’m passionate about labor organizing, political activism, and ecological restoration.
A: 31 F, I work full time as a bartender at a local food cart pod. I love to garden, craft, and adventure. I am pretty social, so my time at home is for relaxing and decompressing.
PETS: We are not allowing furry pets at this time, unfortunately.
COST: Rent is $789/month, and there’s a $400 security deposit upon move-in. Garbage, recycling, and compost are included. We split additional utilities - around $93-102/person each month for internet, gas, and PGE, based on the season, and around $170/person quarterly for water every three months.
Please write us back with some details about yourself - your background, age, school/work situation, hobbies, principles, content of character, cleanliness and noise level expectations/habits, social habits etc. Thanks!
