1942/1 D Mercury Dime ANACS Certified Error AU Details Cleaned
I bought this dime at a small plaza near the Rialto Bridge in Venice Italy over 20 years ago. The seller was an older Italian who had a table of miscellaneous items including a few coins. I didn't have a loupe with me since I was just a tourist, but I knew the 1942/1 D was hard to see without magnification so I "gambled" and paid his price of 1 Euro. I assumed it had been spent by a US service man during WW2 because it was in such good condition.
I threw it in my carry-on bag when I flew home and forgot about it. I rediscovered it 20 years later when I emptied the bag before donating the bag. I was a bit surprised when I finally examined it with a loupe and I sent it in to be authenticated.
