Position is partial work trade - approx 40 hours average per month, in return for significantly reduced rent on a spacious 1-bedroom ocean-view apartment above a detached garage.
The right person / couple for this job is dependable; quiet; self-sufficient; enjoys animals and is kind and respectful to them; thoughtful and forthright in communications; environmentally conscious; able to follow good milk-handling sanitation, provide dog care, and do some farm maintenance; available to negotiate a flexible schedule and assist in emergencies; and has a reliable working vehicle. Ability to lift 50 lbs and move/stack hay bales a plus. 1-year commitment required. No smoking or drugs.
Duties include: daily goat care responsibilities of 30 min per day 6 days per week, full goat and farm care responsibilities of 4-6 hours per day 1 day per week, 6 hours of additional farm labor per month (usually barn cleaning/stall mucking), and caretaking all aspects of the farm for longer periods of 1-3 weeks approx. four times per year on a varying schedule. Time commitment varies; goat-care shifts entail more work in some seasons, less in others. Caretaker is also expected to be available in emergencies.
Tenant pays $550 per month rent (full rent for this unit would be $1,600). Rent includes use of washer-dryer in main house and all utilities (electricity, water, wired internet, small weekly garbage pickup) except propane for cookstove, hot water, and heat.
