After working for twenty years with international students, some knowing no English, Ms Sandy knows how to create understanding and reading/writing skill quickly. She has taught in public schools, language centers, universities and privately. Since COVID, she has become an online teacher and has found great success with it.
Currently she can work with your child in Google. meet and Google.docs. Real skill building, creative thinking and critical thinking will happen. Because she loves seeing children expand their minds, she uses poetry, fantasy stories, history, literature, word puzzles and games, as well as entertaining grammar workbooks. Students join her online in weekly or twice-weekly classes. She oversees homework and projects. Families work with her for many years, and she texts parents every week to explain progress.
Language Arts standards are met and many children work above grade level. Others are catching up on reading and writing.
Ms. Sandy also trains students in test-taking, expanding vocabulary, comprehension and ability to edit passages for grammar and punctualtion errors. Many schools require standardized tests for entrance. SAT, SSAT, ISEE are some that her students do well on.
Bonus: As a great motivator to inspire children's writing, she sends entertaining activity books (that she has designed and written) free of charge.
Families from China, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and Japan refer her to their friends. She works with students throughout the United States, since Google.meet brings everyone to the same page. Online learning with Ms. Sandy really works!
The fee is $50/hr, paid with Zelle at or before each meeting. Children need to know how to open docs files and respond to Google.meet invites. Or, parents can set up the meetings.
As you can see, reading/writing/thinking/creating can be one beautiful and exciting activity. Ms Sandy is a passionate teacher/writer/artist who sees children as incredibly imaginative and clever. She inspires, entertains, and sets very high standards. Children meet them and feel proud. Parents appreciate her commitment and experience; they can see that she loves, and well as teaches, their children.
