An exquisite, substantial piece, very old, and very well-crafted. Solid, heavy brass with lovely, understated detailing. The chains and trays are not original, but they are in keeping with the design of the balance. The pivot is extremely sensitive: the slightest bit of weight will move the needle.

The first seven pictures show the true color of the metal; the rest provide better detail.

This beautifully made balance can become a magnificent hanging double planter, or, with a weight of any sort in one tray and a potted plant in the other, the balance will let you know just when the plant needs water.

The arm spans 24" across; the hanger measures 12"; the trays hang another 12" below the arm, but they can be adjusted by removing or adding links.
