About Us
We are a local Ojai based dog training company specializing in both positive reinforcement and balanced training methods. Our programs include basic obedience, off leash training, service dog training, behavior modification, and rehabilitation for dogs experiencing fear, anxiety, and aggression.
We are looking for a motivated and dependable Apprentice / Assistant Dog Trainer to join our team. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about dogs and interested in developing their skills and knowledge in professional dog training.
Compensation
$20–$25 per hour to start, depending on experience, with opportunities for advancement and increased compensation based on demonstrated training proficiency and skill development.
Schedule
Mon-Fri 7:30am-2:30pm,
Approximately 30 hours per week, schedule may vary depending on business needs.
Responsibilities
Ensure the safety, health, and well being of all dogs in our care.
Manage well behaved dogs in our social yard.
Assist clients and their dogs during drop off and pick up.
Provide dog walking and structured play.
Assist with training and handling dogs in a variety of environments.
Follow established training protocols and handling procedures.
Maintain clean and organized kennels and training areas.
Perform general cleaning and facility maintenance.
Take engaging, high quality photos and videos to document dogs’ progress for clients.
Provide baths and basic grooming care as needed.
Assist the training team with day to day operations and other tasks as needed.
Requirements
Strong dog handling and communication skills.
Professional and personable customer service skills.
Ability to consistently follow established protocols and procedures.
Dependable, responsible, and able to work independently when needed.
Comfortable working around multiple dogs in a fast paced environment.
Willingness to learn and receive instruction and feedback.
Previous experience working with dogs and/or in customer service is preferred, but not required.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who is reliable, attentive, eager to learn, and genuinely passionate about working with dogs. A willingness to learn and follow proper handling techniques and training methodology is more important than having extensive prior experience.
