Manufacturer Background & Philosophy
• History: Founded in 1974 in Raleigh, North Carolina by two NC State University students, This End Up originated from a DIY idea: building rugged, indestructible furniture out of heavy solid wood and shipping crate materials. The brand blew up in popularity through the 1980s and 1990s as a household name for indestructible rustic furniture.
• Materials & Construction: All classic This End Up pieces are crafted from 100% kiln-dried Solid Southern Yellow Pine. They are known for heavy block frame joinery, thick wood paneling, smooth hand-finished edges, and deep honey-brown stains that highlight the natural knots and grain structure.
• Mission & Reputation: Built around the concept of "furniture designed for real life," their pieces are famously over-engineered to withstand heavy wear, kids, pets, and moves. Because of this, vintage and late 20th-century This End Up pieces remain structurally intact decades after manufacture.
