It describes the first eventful and exiting day in the life of a tiny Southern Californian lizard.
It is largely based on real events at my house, just slightly embellished here and there. Let’s call it artistic freedom for a good cause.
Besides providing some really good entertainment for the reader - or the very young listener it is read to for that matter - it tries to share some life experience and suggest and encourages certain approaches to life that often take quite some bravery.
Its special design with lots of drawings and short headlines as well as detail-filled text makes Lorenzo’s Adventures enjoyable for children of many ages, from as young as preschool to fourth or fifth graders.
On the back cover I call it a “reading trap” in the hope it will help to lure the youngsters into the wonderful world of words and encourage them to become fans and eventually masters language - in my view a necessary basis of pretty much everything else there is.

Lorenzo. One sunny morning, little Lorenzo takes heart, opens his eyes, and leaves his familiar egg to check out the neighborhood. Curious as he is, he runs into one adventure after another. He learns a lot about all kinds of things, including about himself and his skills and about how to overcome fear, deal with tricky situations, and correct wrong assumptions for good. All the while, he is having one fun and exciting time.
The Book not only provides fascinating entertainment; it also portrays a little guy’s approach to unknown territory. It offers an example of how to take on the adventure of life in a positive, confident, and open-minded way.

The Author and Illustrator. Peter Strunk lives in Southern California with a bunch of lizards visiting his studio on a daily basis. It was these friends who finally talked him into turning some of their adventures into this little lizard book.
