The magnificent shade-giving and wildlife-supporting trees of Lakeside Park need your help. Many of these treasured trees are facing serious challenges from drought, declining soil health, invasive plants, vandalism, and years of deferred care—but together, we can make a real difference.

Join the Lake Merritt Conservancy for our monthly Tree Care Volunteer Day on Saturday, July 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Spend a rewarding morning outdoors caring for some of the park's most iconic Coast Live Oaks and other beautiful shade trees surrounding the Edoff Memorial Bandstand.

Whether you're an experienced gardener or simply looking for a meaningful way to give back, you are welcome. You'll meet neighbors who care deeply about Lake Merritt, learn about the Conservancy's efforts to restore and protect the park's urban forest, and take part in hands-on stewardship activities such as weed removal, soil aeration, and sheet mulching—practical work that directly improves tree health and resilience.

Come make new friends, connect with nature, and help ensure that Lakeside Park's remarkable tree canopy continues to thrive for generations to come. We look forward to welcoming you and stewarding these invaluable natural resources together.
