Seeking a mature housemate to fill a bedroom and optional office space available December 1st a half-mile from downtown Northampton. Heat, hot water, and internet are included. The apartment has a large kitchen with lots of storage space, a working fireplace in the living room, parking and EV charging out back, a coin-operated washer and dryer, and basement storage.
Your housemate would be a 40 year land survey technician and long-time apartment resident. I have a five year old son and, outside of work, spend the majority of my time with him at my co-parent’s residence nearby. My son does not regularly visit the apartment but does on occasion, and will sleep over on rarer occasion. When I’m home, you may find me doing meal prep for the next day, online schooling, honey jar bottling/labeling, tending to my bee hive next door, or having a short moment to myself before the day’s end. As is locally typical, I’m progressive in my ideals and outdoorsy, but my interests and hobbies have largely been supplanted by parental responsibilities these days.
A suitable housemate would:
(1) be sociable
- Having the space to escape, relax, feel secure and at home is appreciated. But if you are the type to typically shut yourself in your room over interacting with others, this apartment may not be for you.
- There is ample common space. Its use is highly encouraged!
(2) be good with children
- Must be friendly, warm, and welcoming to my son. Although he is not over often, this is his home as well. He’s a wonderful kid and is generally well-behaved.
(3) be mature and settled into adulthood
- You’ve got the adulting basics down pat (e.g., how to be considerate to others, cooking, cleaning, organization, etc.). You’ve otherwise got you’re routine going and you’re focused on doing you.
- Housemates who are regularly up and productive during the day and considerate of noise during work and late night hours are appreciated. However, atypical work schedules (e.g., night or early morning shifts) are not deal breakers here.
- Free and open communication is strongly encouraged. Don’t be hesitant with questions. If you have anxieties about communicating, doing your best to overcome that will make for a much better home life.
(4) give high priority to cleanliness
- Life outside the home can be messy enough. The importance of tidiness in keeping a peaceful home is plain to you—especially when it is shared—and you work to regularly maintain that tidiness.
- You recognize how leaving messes in a shared home inconveniences everyone. You always clean up after yourself.
- You can comfortably conform to a high standard of cleanliness. In practice, this means not leaving dishes in the sink, keeping all surfaces clean, regular sweeping/vacuuming/mopping/bathroom cleaning, etc.
The room:
127 sq. ft., has wood floors, a closet, and two east-facing windows. Rent is $1100 per month.
Optional office:
A bit short of 100 sq. ft., carpeted, has a closet, a long array of windows spanning three walls, and its own thermostat. An additional $200 per month for private use of this space.
In addition to rent is electricity. Electricity costs vary with the seasons, but it is generally reasonable (cost of EV charging subtracted from bill and paid by users; the remainder split equally among housemates). Heat, hot water, and internet are included. No smoking inside (marijuana included). No dogs or cats (sorry, not flexible). LGBTQ friendly. Available December 1, 2026. This is a month-to-month lease with a required security deposit equal to one month’s rent.
