Production Associate – Leather Goods
Pay: Starting at $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Location: Newburyport, MA (Newburyport Industrial Park, ¼ mile from the commuter rail)
No experience required. We’ll train you.
About Us
Todder LLC is a Newburyport-based leather goods manufacturer. We produce for many brands including our own Monomoy, our line of custom leather patch hats, beanies, coasters, patches, and golf headcovers for businesses and brands across the country. Visit monomoy.com to see the products you’d be helping make.
We primarily produce custom leather patch hats in-house, stitching, gluing, and heat pressing the custom leather patches directly onto the hats. We offer the quickest lead time in the industry, so we need people who are organized, professional, and focused on the job in front of them. Our family’s roots in New England leather goods go back to 1945.
About the Role
This is the role that makes sure every hat leaving our shop is right. Your core focus will be cutting and burning and quality control: finishing hats after the patch goes on and checking every product to make sure it’s the right hat, the right patch, and made to our standard before it ships.
If you like steady, hands-on work where you can put your headphones in, get into a rhythm, and take pride in getting the details right, this is a great job for you. Every order that ships has gone through hands like yours.
Other Tasks
- Cutting and burning and QC will be your main focus. With normal fluctuations in production, you’ll also help with other craft steps across the floor, including:
- Patch cleaning
- Bin filling
- Patch attaching
- Stamping and personalization on our stamping machines
- General assembly on other leather goods
Responsibilities
- Cut and burn hats per spec sheets
- Review every product for quality and accuracy: correct hat style, color, patch, and placement
- Learn all of our hat styles so you can catch errors before they ship
- Clean patches and prep products for the next step
- Meet production targets and complete work within the allotted time
- Record production times on all jobs via barcode scanning
- Maintain your tools and a clean workspace
- Report anything slowing down your work to the Production Manager
- Follow instructions carefully and act on constructive feedback
- Be respectful and courteous to everyone in the shop
- Arrive on time and work as a team to get the job done.
Requirements
- Strong attention to detail. You’re the last set of eyes before a product ships.
- Organized, professional, and able to stay focused on repetitive tasks
- Comfortable working with your hands and with shop tools
- Able to lift 25 lbs and work at a steady, efficient pace
- 18 years or older
Nice to Have
- Any production, assembly, or quality control experience
- Any leather crafting or general craft experience
